Abstract
A study was made of filaments taken from fabrics of clean, use-soliled, and laundry- soiled cotton and "Dacron"® polyester fibers. Electron microscope examination of filament surfaces and cross sections identified both organic and inorganic particulate soil constituents distributed in a manner which was determined by the treatment the soiled fabrics had received. Evidence was obtained for the binding of particulate soil to fiber surfaces with a fatty soil adhesive.
