Attention is drawn to an error which may occur in the use of the W.I.R.A. Fiber Diagram Machine for determining the average fiber length of wool tops. This seems to occur mainly when short fibers are absent from the top and is manifested by obtaining galvanometer deflections in excess of 100%. A method of correction is suggested. The cause is ascribed to the possibility of the free ends of the fibers being able to bend away from the parallel direction of the general mass of fibers.
