Eleven experimental cottons were subjected to identical yarn mercerization in an attempt to determine whether differences in response to the treatment could be observed. The response was measured in terms of changes in yarn resilience, elastic modulus, and toughness. Changes in yarn elastic modulus and resilience were found to be dependent upon X-ray angle, although the dependence on X-ray angle was found to be the reverse of that for fiber elastic modulus [6].
