Methods of applying punched-card computing to a study of the relationships between fibers and yarns are described. Various factors such as fiber property distributions, fiber arrangements, the interaction of fiber properties with yarn structure, and the yarn breakage mechanism are considered. Some informational needs which may lead to a better comprehension of the problem and ultimately to a valid prediction of yarn properties are discussed.
