Stabilization of filaments spun from formaldehyde-treated alkaline dispersions of zein is ob tained by baking at 160°C. A decreased shrinkage in water at room temperature is particularly evident in the larger filaments or bristles and is adequate for many purposes. Strengths are not appreciably reduced by the treatment.
