Abstract
To stimulate research and development was the primary purpose for which the patent law was enacted. That there have been abuses of the system is admitted, but as a prelude to intelligent correction of existing faults there should be more widespread knowledge of the facts as re vealed by actual practice.
In this series of articles by Mr. Rose, Part I. 1 dealt with the system in its relationship with the individual in ventor. Part II., which is presented herewith, discusses the experience of corporations in the use of patents. Al though the cases cited are taken from the rayon industry an analogy may be drawn which will apply to other branches of the textile industry. Part III., which con cludes "Research and the Patent System," will discuss the commercialization of patents and will appear in the September issue of TEXTILE RESEARCH.
