Abstract
The swelling of raw and boiled-off silk was determined with reference to the diameter measurement and an inverse ratio of swelling was found. It was shown that sericin swells uniformly but that fibroin swelling depends on diameter size. Equations were deduced and a mathematical solution is given. The possible causes for this type of swelling are discussed.
