Abstract
A method t is presented for detecting and observing changes in the histological sturcture of cotton fibres during the course of biological mildew devleopment. Fibre elements are first stained by the use of a 0.15% aqueous solution of Victoria Blue B. Swelling of the dyed fibre in cuprammonium solution containing not more than 0.8% copper is then used to accentuate and separate the finer structures for microscopic observation. The appearance of typical samples of normal raw cotton and badly mildewed raw cotton are shown in a series of eight photomicrographs.
