Abstract
It would be extremely interesting and very worthwhile to show by means of photomicrographs the fissure openings in a single Manila cell. This has not been easy since the breaks that occur and can be seen are rare, as they must have openings parallel to the line of sight. Furthermore, the magnification must be high and, oven though it is possible to view the specimen clearly, it is hard to obtain the same results photographically. Such a specimen is, however, illustrated in Fig. 17. The pictures were taken with a 1.8 mm. oil immersion objective and a 10x ocular from a Canada balsam mount between crossed nicols and with a first order red selenite.
