Abstract
We investigate the related strength properties of 3D solid orthogonal fabric panels under conditions of low strain, then analyzes the response of these fabrics to low tensile loads. We also determine how it is possible to deduce the tensile properties of 3D solid orthogonal fabrics panels from the known properties of their constituent yams and the fabric's structural geometry when fabrics suffer from low strain (less than 10%). The experiments indicate that the relationship between stress and strain for 3D solid orthog onal fabric panels is parabolic (see Equations 12, 13, 14, and 15), and the relationship between fabric strain and yam strain is linear (see Equations 8, 9, 10, and 11). In addition, yam strain is much less than fabric strain.
