Abstract
This research deals with the antibacterial efficacy of a nanosized silver colloidal solution and its application to nonwoven fabrics. The nutrient solution including the nanosized silver colloidal solution or the nanosilver treated nonwovens are placed on germ containing agar plates and inoculated with gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and evaluated for bacteriostasis and calculated bacterial reduction, respectively. Nanosized silver colloids and nanosilver treated nonwovens have good bacteriostasis. TEM observa tions of silver nanoparticles show their shape and size distribution. SEM images of treated fabrics indicate silver nanoparticles are well dispersed on the surfaces of specimens. Antibacterial treatment of nonwoven fabrics is easily achieved by the nanaosized silver colloidal solution.
