The feasibility of controlling the area density distribution in low-density air-laid nonwoven webs in both the machine direction and the cross direction is investigated. To improve web area density uniformity, it is necessary to control web uniformity in both directions. An air-laying web former with feedback to control web density distribution both along and across the machine direction is developed. Performance evaluation proves that the control method is effective.
