Abstract
Irregularity of the surface mass density of a card web is presented as a two-dimensional random field. Transverse nonhomogeneity of the web is studied, and homogeneous equivalents of the measured random field irregularity are obtained using a homogenization procedure. The "degree of influence" of the card web's transverse nonhomogeneity is estimated. On the basis of two-dimensional smoothing, the effects of micro- and macro- irregularity are selected and studied. Influences of the parameters of two-dimensional smoothing on web irregularity in the micro- and macro-scales are analyzed. Statistical estimations of the relative area and volume of outliers of the web's surface mass density are obtained. The influence of CD-nonhomogeneity of the random field of web irregularity on the outlier characteristics is studied, and characteristics of the outliers for micro- and macro-scale random field irregularity are estimated.
