Cet article a un triple objet: expliquer le manque à peu près total d'intérêt pour le problème de la sécularisation de la part des sociologues finlandais; plaider en faveur d'une telle recherche sociologique; suggérer quelques observations importantes à faire au début d'une telle recherche en Finlande.
