Abstract
The author first presents a problematic regarding religion — health rapports, underlining on the one hand the secular character of modern medicine and, on the other hand, the recent develop ment of a new perspective on religion — health rapports which he terms the holistic perspective. According to this perspective, religion and health entail close relationships wherein are valorized the symbolic dimensions at work in the therapeutic processes. The author then examines the case of the Church of Scientology in order to reveal therein the presence of a holistic perspective in its conception of religion — health rapports. After having presented the teachings of dianetics and of scientology, and after having taken into account his research on the lived experiences of Mon tréal scientologists, the author suggests that scientology is in con testation with the dominant model of religion — health rapports. He concludes his article by raising some questions of interest for further research.
