La production des producteurs, telle qu'elle est comprise par l'Auteur, constitue une partie du processus général de reproduc tion sociale. Elle consiste dans les moyens ritualisés ou non par lesquels la production sociale des êtres humains travaillant la terre s'effectue. Dans ce mécanisme, le mariage apparait comme le rituel officiel qui initie la production sociale (aussi bien que biolo gique) des etres humains, malgre l 'existence de nombreuses prati ques reproductives au cours du temps, notamment l'illégitimité et la reclassification des liens de parente.
