Abstract
The text presents and analyzes two social institutions - All Dead People Day and the funeral - as connected with the attitude towards the dead in Slovenia, north-western republic of the Yugoslav federation. In the traditionally Catholic country the reli gious observation of All Saints Day and of All Hallows Day (des pite strong non-Christian elements of popular religion), was mainly within the family or the local community. After the socia list revolution, November the First had become also a state holi day, the All Dead People Day.
