This article tries to present the fundamental features of the cult of the saints in the Indian sub-continent. At the starting- point of this study, there are the ethnological observations which have been made in Nepal and which have been published elsewhere. These observations are re-examined and placed in a larger context, such as can be reconstituted accor ding to the rather rare literature on the subject.
