Abstract
This contribution presents a remote laboratory approach using virtual reality on the Web. Extensions like plug-ins and Java applets, which use MATLAB/SIMULINK for simulations, are integrated into the Web browser. Interactive animation of control engineering experiments can be performed using VRML models of labo ratory plants. The Web-based techniques for realising a virtual laboratory of this kind are introduced and discussed in detail. The main characteristics of this Web-based simulation approach are demonstrated with help of an ex ample from a learning system including virtual laboratory camponents. The central focus of this contribution is on the technical realisation of the most important elements. Some virtual laboratory examples illustrate the usefulness of this approach.
