Abstract
Simulation is emerging as a general purpose planning, modeling, and problem-solving tool for a wide range of manufacturing processes. Availability of different simulation software has made it easier for engineers and managers to approach complex problems with a tool that allows them to evaluate "what if" scenarios. Extend™ is one of the newer simulation software packages on the market that has some unique features that may prove beneficial in modeling continuous as well as discrete-event problems. It is a powerful tool for decision-support systems, and provides insight into complex manufacturing and business problems. In this paper, a brief description of a fairly complex nuclear fuel transfer project and the features of Extend in modeling complex problems are discussed.
