This paper outlines the need for computer based modeling tools in the simulation field. The modeling tasks that should be automated by a modeling environment to describe the dynamics of a system assembled by a set of sub-systems will be presented. The benefits of reusing a model by analyzing its external physical causality rather than its computational causality will be evidenced by means of an application example.
