Hooper,9 in his review of world views in discrete-event simula tion, makes the common mistake of presenting activity scanning as it was first conceived in the 1950s and ignoring its subsequent development. For over 20 years, activity scanning has been sup planted by the three-phase approach, which combines elements of both event scheduling and activity scanning. The three-phase approach is presented and discussed against the world view char acteristics developed by Hooper.
