This paper discusses the combined use of extrapola tive and normative models for studying global socio- economic problems. The prescribed modeling approach is illustrated through use of WORLD3, presented originally by D. L. Meadaws et al. in The Dynamics of Growth in a Finite World. Included is a compari son of Meadows' standard simulation run with a sub stantially improved modification that resulted from use of the authors' normative approach.
