Abstract
This paper describes a digital-computer simulation of the influence of weather on the population of the European corn borer (ECB). The program, which is written in a FORTRAN-based language, defines a basical ly continuous-system model that accommodates discrete events in the weather-ECB ecological system. The principal factors controlling the ECB population are temperature, the daily spread of temperature (i.e., maximum-minimum), and rainfall. The goal of the simu lation is to improve our understanding of crop-ECB ecology and to assist corn-pest managers in reducing crop damage by applying control measures when they will be most effective.
