The early results of 60 total hip replacements using the Charnley Low Friction Arthroplasty are reviewed. Two patients developed severe post-operative infection. All but 3 had no pain or only slight pain which did not interfere with their activities and there was good improvement in walking function in patients with no other joint involvement. The majority of patients gained 90° of hip flexion after operation.
