Abstract
As a minimum, we recommend that preparation of a presentation in any form—whether it is designed to be delivered as a ‘live’ or televised lecture, or through other means as, for example, a multi-media self-instructional package—should begin with a clear and careful analysis of objectives and audience needs. Built into it should be those experiences and activities, both overt and covert, in which the student must engage in order to learn those skills that we want him to learn. Whether or not we are successful will depend in part on the degree to which we take advantage of the strengths of the medium. More frequently, it will depend upon the skill, care, and imagination with which we build the learning experience itself.
