Abstract
One hundred and nineteen cases of ectopic pregnancy treated in the Department of Gynaecology, Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi, are described. Ectopic pregnancy accounted for almost one third of the abdominal operations performed in the department. Pelvic inflammatory disease seemed to be the cause of this high incidence. Culdocentesis proved useful for diagnosis, but should be employed with caution in a population in whom pelvic sepsis is common.
The value and safety of auto-transfusion is emphasised.
