Two cases of colloid carcinoma of the ano-rectal region unassociated with carcinoma in the alimentary tract have been described. Histology from both cases showed the presence of non malignant mucin secreting glands as well as mucin secreting adeno-carcinoma. This supports the evidence put forward by Dukes and Galvin that the carcinoma originates from ectopic rectal mucosa.
