A 31/2-year-old girl with the nephrotic syndrome, persistent hypocomplementaemia and the mixed membranous and proliferative type of diffuse glomerulonephritis on renal biopsy is reported. Ventriculo-atrial drainage with insertion of a Spitz-Holter valve was established for hydrocephalus when she was 8 weeks old; this was complicated by Staphylococcus albus bacteraemia. It is suggested that Staph. albus is the causal agent in such cases of glomerulonephritis, possibly on an immune basis.
