A patient with toxicity due to chloramphenicol is reported. After administration of the drug for 17 days bilateral optic neuritis developed and retinal exudates were found. Haemorrhages were found in the macular area in each eye. There was a partial recovery of vision after stopping the drug. Peripheral neuropathy was observed a fortnight later.
