Simultaneous Presentation of Ectopic Pregnancy and Hyperthyroidism

Abstract

Hyperthyroidism is known to occur uncommonly in pregnancy (about 0.5per 1000). The incidence of ectopic pregnancy is approximately 9.6 per 1000 pregnancies. Both conditions, if unrecognised and untreated can have potentially fatal consequences. We describe a case of hyperthyroidism and ectopic pregnancy presenting concurrently, and highlight the difficulties encountered in diagnosis when two clinical conditions present with indistinguishable clinical signs.
