1.
The controversy regarding Cesalpino and Harvey having lasted nearly three centuries, the relative literature is extensive; it is contained in the works of Willis (1878) Dalton (1884) D'Arcy Power (189) Mallcch (1929) so that it need not be listed here, but the book by Izquierdo deserves special notice: HARVEY, Iniciador del Metodo Experimental (Mexico, 1936). It quotes and discusses the several Italian and Spanish authors who have propounded the claims of the various precursors of Harvey. Reference has been made to the help obtainable from Bibliotheca Osleriana (Oxford, 1929). I wish particularly to acknowledge the courtesy of the Trustees of the British Museum, the Bodleian Library, Oxford, and the University Library, Cambridge, in supplying me with photographs, photostats and aiding the search for manuscripts and printed works.
