Abstract
Hitherto the exhibitor has been in the habit of leaving the greater part of the post-aural wound open and allowing the bony wound of the mastoid antrum and cells to granulate from the bottom. Drainage was provided for by loose wicks of gauze, a drainage tube, or by simply leaving the wound open without the insertion of any foreign body. As a general rule such cases took from three and a half to five weeks to heal completely. The wounds in the cases shown today have been sutured entirely at tbe, close of the operation and the dressing removed on the fourth or fifth day. In most instances the patients have been able to go home within a fortnight.
