Left Behind: The American Dream and the Hispanic Dilemma

Abstract

Quantitative studies over the last few years graphically illustrate the growing economic disparities and inequalities in American society. These inequalities lead to disenfranchisement and dispossession, and impact mainly racial and ethnic minorities. Hispanics have experienced the negative aspects of current economic realities and represent a large group left behind by the economic system of the U.S. A foundational factor for the inequality is the capitalist system of the U.S. that perpetuates a social order based on Euroamerican ethics. Such an ethic favors the status quo and the elites that benefit from it. This essay suggests a way to confront and confound the economic reality of the status quo through para joder. The ethics of para joder is an activism that disrupts and challenges the injustices of the current economic structures.
