Abstract
This study investigated correspondence between ideological orientations of United States Senators and their constituents. Factor analysis of group ratings of United States Senators indicated a unidimensional ideological structure. Factor analysis of state voting behavior in past presidential elections produced a two-factor solution; one factor was ideological. “When factor scores from the Senatorial ideology factor were regressed upon factor scores from the two-state presidential voting factors, as expected, state presidential voting ideology was a moderately strong predictor of a Senator's ideology.
