Abstract
A questionnaire containing the Gough-Sanford Rigidity Scale was administered to a random sample of 262 students at a university in the deep South. For those students who had changed their majors from one college to another: (1) Liberal Arts upperclassmen were more flexible than Education and Business Administration upperclassmen; (2) flexible Liberal Arts upperclassmen were formerly Education and Business Administration lowerclassmen, and (3) rigid Education and Business Administration upperclassmen were formerly Liberal Arts lowerclassmen. The findings suggested a selective process operated.
