Abstract
To compare the validities of the Standard Progressive Matrices, 1938 Series and the Advanced Progressive Matrices for IQ and grade point average (GPA), the Standard Matrices, WAIS, and Minnesota Paper Form Board were administered to 201 college students. The Advanced Matrices, Otis Mental Ability Test (Otis) and Minnesota were given to a second group of 121 students. The validities of the matrices were of low magnitude for GPA and moderate for IQ. No significant differences were found between the validity coefficients of the two matrices tests. The bases for the relationships of the non-verbal tests with IQ were postulated as underlying information-processing rate and quality.
