Abstract
The story of the Church of the Good Samaritan has been reported in the Prison Journal before but these excerpts from the Third Biennial Report of the Reverend A. W. Stremel, Chaplain of the Western State Penitentiary, Pittsburgh, Pa., are of more than local interest. In order to conserve paper, we have deleted parts of the report which seem to be of primary local interest.
Pastor Stremel's enterprise in organizing a congregation within prison walls is unique, and this report indicates how his program is implemented. It should be helpful to other chaplains. This project is but one of many indications that organized religion is seeking for more effective ways of carrying out the Master's injunction, "I was in prison and ye came unto me".
The Report is issued in mimeographed form and we feel sure Reverend Stremel would be willing to send a copy to anyone requesting it.
