Sections 11, 12, 13, 15 (in part), 29, 30(1) to (4), 31(7) have been brought into force from May 23, 1985. Other sections are expected to commence in 1986.

In R. v. Steyning Justices, ex parte Roberts (1985) The Times, June 15, the Divisional Court upheld the magistrates' decision in awarding £12,000 (although considered on the high side) costs to the defendant in a private prosecution against the prosecutor when the case was not proved. So there is this added deterrent to vexatious prosecutors.

Prosecuting solicitors, who will be transferred for the new service, are not happy at the terms and conditions offered to them on the proposed transfer. Reportedly many dissatisfied prosecutors are leaving the police authorities in protest (see The Guardian. November 12, 1985).
