Abstract
Chief Inspector Ashworth's article arises out of a research paper he prepared whilst a member of the Junior Command Course at the Police Staff College. Mr. Ashworth makes no claim to being an “expert” on police stress but he has been, to use his own words, “of longstanding supervisory rank and also a branch board representative.” What he has done is to pose pertinent questions to forces concerning their policies in relation to police postings and stress. The replies, which he analyses here, are both intriguing and challenging.
