Abstract
In February 1973 the University of Manchester held a seminar on European Police Systems. Lectures by Professor Brian Chapman, author of The Prefects of Provincial France and Police State, provided the basic matter. The seminar's four meetings were chaired by Michael Elliott-Bateman, of the University's Department of Military Studies, and P. J. Stead, Dean of Academic Studies of the Police College. The closing address was given by H. V. D. Hallett, Assistant Chief Constable of Kent, Deputy Commandant and Dean of Police Studies at Bramshill. Among those present were senior members of the Police College Directing Staff and the Manchester and Salford Police.
