Abstract
This is the first of a series of twelve articles of special interest to candidates for the promotion exams. In this article the whole question of preparation is considered; in the second, examination technique will be explained; and in the remainder, several matters which are contained in the syllabuses and which are not readily available in the text-books in common use will be dealt with in detail.
