Leaders must have language that drives their actions; that begins with identifying their personal core values and those of their district. The example of mission/vision/core values of United Health Care inspired Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland to develop its core values statements, which the author (a former superintendent in the district) built on to guide many district decisions and served as a benchmark for individual and collective responsibility.
