Production of food on the farm and purchasing and eating requirements of the public have all changed dramatically during the last few decades. The trend towards intensification, in response to the need to produce food as cheaply as possible, has led to criticism of the farming industry. Concern by the public was highlighted by the food scares of recent years. This article takes an overview of animal health and husbandry, why disease occurs, and how it can be and is reduced.
