Abstract
There have recently been numerous reports of severe leaf damage and plant death of glasshouse crops in the United Kingdom. The vapour of di-butyl phthalate (DBP), a component of plastic glazing strip, has been identified as the causal factor. Certain species of plant are killed by exposure to as little as 200 picogrammes DBP per litre of air, and it is probable that, since the 1930s, DBP has damaged a variety of commercial glasshouse crops and house plants on a world-wide basis.
