From sowing to harvest the growth and development of crops is influenced by a number of climatic and soil factors which interact in a very complex way. The complexity is not such, however, as to preclude the possibility of developing a simulation model of the growth and development of crops designed both to evaluate the relative importance of the various control factors involved, or the possibility of predicting the future course of growth on the basis of known parameters.
