Malaria and agricultural development

Abstract

The resurgence in global incidence of malaria over the past fourteen years can be attributed very largely to the resistance of anopheline mosquito vectors to previously effective insecticides, though lack of funds has contributed to the failure of some eradication programmes. Agriculture is often both a major contributory cause of this resistance, through the widespread use of insecticides against crop pests, and the chief sufferer from the disabling and weakening effects of the disease.
