Abstract
Residues derived from the organochlorine insecticides DDT, aldrin, dieldrin and heptachlor were widespread in the living environment during the 1960s, with particularly high levels being found in a number of predatory species. The reasons for this distribution pattern and the significance of the residue levels found are discussed. One outcome of the study of organochlorine pollution has been a growth of interest in better methods for determining the undesirable side effects of pesticides.
