Experiments have been begun by ADAS on the problems of incorporating chopped straw into the soil, or of direct drilling through a surface mulch of chopped straw, on the growth and yield of the following crop. Some preliminary observations on implement performance and early crop growth in the first autumn of the experiments are given. No firm conclusions are yet possible.
