Bolting in root crops causes loss of yield and a reduction in sugar concentration. Climatic and other factors affecting the level of bolting have been investigated, as a result of which various approaches have been indicated by which the expectation of bolting may be minimized. Chemical control offers one possibility, but existing products do not give sufficiently consistent results.
